The Teacher Eligibility Test popularly known as TET. TET exam organised by the both Central and State Governments to select the skillful and eligible teachers for Classes I-V (Primary Stage), Classes VI-VIII (Upper Primary Stage) in various government schools and colleges. The TET examination consists of two papers. The first paper will be for those people who want to teach classes from class I-V and while the second paper will be for those people who want to teach from class VI to VIII. Those who want to teach in classrooms at both levels They will have to take both paper exams.

Under the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act for children of 6 to 14 years in schools, teachers’ eligibility exams are being organized for the purpose of meeting the lack of teachers and ensuring quality. Under this, their ability to deal with the challenges of primary and higher primary level will be assessed with the efficiency, intelligence and qualifications of teachers.

History of TET

Government of India was introduced the TET to improve the quality of teaching and education standards. It was held for the first time in 2011.

TET Eligibility Criteria

TET Eligibility Criteria for Primary Teachers (Classes I-V)

  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002. OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed). OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education) OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed)

TET Eligibility Criteria for Primary Teachers (Classes VI-VIII)

  • Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known). OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) OR
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard. OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed). OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4- year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)*.
